Questions, answered plainly.
The things owners, operators and partners ask before they connect a building. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Will cMatter work with my existing systems?
Yes. cMatter is vendor agnostic. The gateway connects over BACnet, Modbus over MQTT or web services and APIs, and reads first without touching your control logic. It works alongside the major building management vendors rather than against them. There is no system to replace.
Do I need new hardware or a retrofit?
No capital works. The Quick Start includes a small gateway and connection accessories that sit on your BMS network. Beyond that, cMatter is a software layer over the plant you already have.
Which building types is it for?
Any commercial building where heating or cooling is a major cost: commercial towers, mixed-use developments, hospitality, healthcare, education and government estates, and district cooling networks. It is most valuable where cooling or heating load is high and operations teams are lean.
What if a building has no BMS?
cMatter can still read meters and sensors, and many findings in the SEE tier come from meter and bill data alone. Where there is no BMS, we scope the connection with you before a Quick Start ships.
Does cMatter take control of my equipment?
Only where you authorise it, within the limits you set. It recommends first, executes on approval, logs every action with full traceability and verifies the result. On critical assets every change passes through a human consent gate. You hold authority at every step.
What about comfort and warranties?
Comfort comes first by design: energy actions never override occupant comfort bands. cMatter sets the setpoint target and your own sequencing controller stages the plant, so OEM warranties and existing control logic stay intact.
Can I roll back a change?
Yes. Every action is logged and reversible. A human can hold or roll back any change from the audit trail.
How much can I save?
Typically 15 to 30% less HVAC energy through optimisation of existing equipment. The figure for your buildings depends on plant, controls and how findings are acted on, which is why every saving is verified per asset against your own metered baseline rather than promised in advance.
How are savings verified?
To IPMVP, the methodology your energy partners and auditors already trust, against your pre-cMatter metered baseline. Estimated numbers and verified numbers are never blended, and reporting is built for owners, ESCOs and regulators with provenance intact.
Is the calculator on the pricing page a quotation?
No. It is an illustrative estimate built from editable assumptions that are listed on the page. A Quick Start turns that estimate into a number your meter can support.
On-premise or cloud?
Both, to meet your security, data residency and IT requirements, with no change to capability.
Who owns the data?
You do. cMatter reads your building data to operate the service and your data stays yours. Enterprise deployments include data residency options, SSO, audit logs and role-based access.
How is it different from my BMS or a dashboard?
A BMS controls equipment. A dashboard shows data. cMatter is the intelligence in between: it finds the faults and waste, costs them, recommends and executes the fix with your approval, and proves the result.
How do I begin?
With a Quick Start on one building: fixed scope, first findings within 30 days. Then add SEE, ACT or CONTROL as trust builds. Or book a walkthrough and we will scope a pilot against your most expensive operating questions.
Can I start small and expand?
Yes. Most customers begin with one site, then extend into authorised action and portfolio intelligence. Same platform, no re-engineering to scale from one tower to a national estate.
How is cMatter priced?
Quick Start is a fixed scope. SEE, ACT and CONTROL are annual subscriptions priced per building and to your portfolio after a demo. There is no CapEx and no revenue share: you keep 100% of the savings.
Do you work through partners?
Yes. ESCOs, system integrators, controls contractors and facilities teams deliver cMatter to their clients through the Partner Programme, and lead businesses represent cMatter across a territory as Distributors.
Still have a question?
Ask it in the first conversation. Success criteria in the first call, scope in the second, start within weeks.
